The awareness-raising campaign that was promoted by CGIL to provide adequate information to the approximately six million Italian citizens registered with the A.I.R.E. - the Register of Italians Abroad - and to encourage their participation in the 2025 referendum is coming to an end.

Numerous public initiatives were organised by Italian communities abroad, referendum committees and associations, particularly in Europe and the Americas, where a sizeable number of Italians living outside Italy reside. The campaign aimed to strengthen the right to vote and encourage democratic participation beyond national borders.

The closing event of the campaign will be an online meeting open to all interested parties on Thursday, 22 May. The meeting will feature a closing speech by Daniela Barbaresi, CGIL's confederal secretary.

This will be an important opportunity to emphasise the value of democratic participation and the crucial role of Italian communities worldwide.

The meeting will also be attended by:

► Insaf Dimassi, representing the Citizenship Referendum Promoting Committee;

► Representatives of associations, committees, and political forces from  Europe and around the world;

► MPs elected abroad.
