Trade unions, social organizations, and international representatives will come together in Buenos Aires for a major event titled “Memory and Resistance. Never Again Fascism”, aimed at reinforcing the role of historical memory in countering the rise of far-right.
The initiative is organized by the International Anti-Fascist Trade Unions Network alongside the Italian General Confederation of Labour (CGIL), INCA (the assistance institute supporting pensioners and welfare rights for Italians abroad), the Federation of Italian Pensioners (SPI CGIL), and the Italian Federation of Knowledge Workers (FLC CGIL). The event will take place on the 25th March 2026. It will run from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Centro Cultural de la Cooperación, located on Avenida Corrientes.
The morning will open with institutional greetings from representatives of the Cultural Cooperation Centre, CLACSO (Latin American Council of Social Sciences), and Carlos Tomada, former Argentine Minister of Labour. This will be followed by an introduction from Alfredo Llana of INCA Argentina and a keynote lecture by Enrico Calamai.
A central moment of the event will be the round table discussion titled “The Importance of Memory in Combating the Far Right”, moderated by Nicoletta Grieco of CGIL. Speakers will include representatives from key Latin American human rights and labour organizations such as Abuelas de Plaza de Mayo, the Permanent Assembly for Human Rights (APDH), the Argentine trade unions confederations (CTA-A, CTA-T, CGT) and the Trade Union Confederation of the Americas (CSA-TUCA). The discussion will explore how collective memory and historical awareness serve as tools to resist authoritarianism and defend democratic values.
After a short coffee break accompanied by a musical interlude, the program will continue with an awards ceremony recognizing Italian students, promoted by SPI CGIL, FLC CGIL, and INCA CGIL Nazionale.
The final segment of the event will feature contributions from international trade union leaders, including representatives from Public Services International (ISP), Spain’s CCOO, Education International, and CUT Brazil. Their interventions will highlight the global dimension of the fight against fascism and the importance of solidarity among workers worldwide.
The event will conclude with an open debate and closing remarks, offering participants an opportunity to reflect on the discussions and reaffirm their commitment to defending democracy.
Supported by the Consejo Latinoamericano de Ciencias Sociales (CLACSO) and the Centro Cultural de la Cooperación Floreal Gorini, the initiative stands as a powerful reminder of the enduring importance of memory in shaping a more just and inclusive future.
