On 14 July 2025, the International Anti-Fascist Trade Unions Network and the Council of Global Unions LGTBI Committee will hold a webinar entitled “Fighting Back Builds Union Power: How Trade Unions are responding to the anti-LGBTI agenda of the Far Right across the world”, which will take place from 14:00 to 15:30 (CEST).
Simultaneous interpretation will be available in English and Spanish.
The meeting will continue the commitment of trade unions to fighting the global blacklash that threatens the rights of the LGBTI community, and will feature testimonies and analysis from people defending fundamental human rights on the front line. This webinar provides an important opportunity for trade unionists and activists from various countries to share their experiences in response to an increasingly hostile political context for LGBTI community.
This initiative builds on the 2024 webinars “Trade unions against the far right: protecting LGBTQIA+ self-determination and rights under global attack” and the Council of Global Unions LGBTI Committee webinar “Moving forward despite the backlash”.
Moderated by Claire Trevor of the Global Unions Council's LGBTI Committee, the debate will feature:
- Jean Wyllis, activist, Brazil;
- Meredith Peace, AEU Victoria, Australia;
- Slomo Cele, COSATU, South Africa;
- Naomi J. Wilson, Starbucks Workers United, United States;
- Sandro Gallittu, CGIL, Italy.
